Johanna Thomashefski received her MA in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco in 2002. She obtained her BA in English from Michigan State University in 1995. While at Michigan State, Johanna co-founded and was the initial coach for the MSU Women's Lacrosse club, playing on the team for four years.
After graduating from MSU, Johanna was the business manager for her family's corporation. Concurrently, from 1996-2000, Johanna was the Junior Varsity Lacrosse coach at her alma mater, Ann Arbor Pioneer High School, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1999 and 2000, Johanna was also the Tournament Director, successfully implementing the first Junior Varsity lacrosse tournament of its kind in the region, bringing fifteen girls' lacrosse teams from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio to Ann Arbor for annual Playdays.
In July 2000, Johanna moved to San Francisco to pursue her master's degree. She was a volunteer Assistant Varsity lacrosse coach at St. Ignatius College Preparatory Academy in 2001. She received her local officiating rating in January 2001 and was a member of the Northern California Women's Lacrosse Association as a player.
She serves on the US Lacrosse Youth Council and is a chairperson on the BRIDGE Executive Leadership Team.
